CM Engages with MLAs on Electricity Infrastructure Challenges

Shimla: During a recent session in the state assembly, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu actively responded to concerns raised by MLAs Rajendra Rana, Janak Raj, and Rakesh Jamwal regarding the state’s electricity infrastructure. The MLAs brought attention to critical issues such as shortages of essential components like poles, meters, and service wires, along with delays in new connections and staff recruitment.
Crucial Tender for Smart Electricity Meters
CM Sukhu shared a significant development concerning the reissuance of a tender worth Rs. 3500 crores for smart electricity meters. This tender had been terminated after a comprehensive government review of pre-election decisions. The Chief Minister’s announcement was a response to the MLAs’ concerns and reflected a commitment to rectifying challenges within the electricity infrastructure.
Commitment to Public Grievance Resolution
Acknowledging the challenges voiced by MLA Rajendra Rana and MLA Janak Raj, CM Sukhwinder affirmed the government’s dedication to promptly addressing public grievances. He assured the assembly that steps would be taken to install electricity meters within a week, emphasizing the government’s commitment to progress.
Achievements Amidst Pandemic Challenges
Despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, CM Sukhu highlighted notable achievements, with 29 lakh meters already installed. This ongoing effort aims to cater to the needs of the state’s 20 lakh families. The Chief Minister underscored the government’s vigilant oversight in the recruitment process, ensuring there are no staff shortages to impede the progress in the electricity infrastructure sector.
Targeted Infrastructure Provision
Responding to specific concerns raised by MLA Janak Raj regarding shortages of meters and transformers, CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu provided reassurance. He affirmed that necessary infrastructure components would be promptly provided wherever shortages were identified, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing critical challenges in the electricity sector.
