DHARAMSHALA: The Chakki Bridge, connecting Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, is set to open for heavy vehicles before February 20, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed.
The information was shared by Jitendra Singh Pathania, the BJP mandal president of Nurpur, who had earlier announced a protest at Chakki Bridge on January 26 due to its delayed opening.
The NHAI has assured that the bridge will be accessible to heavy vehicles before February 20, prompting the BJP mandal to suspend its planned demonstration. The closure of the bridge for nearly 22 months has caused difficulties for locals, and the BJP mandal had been advocating for its prompt reopening.
Pathania emphasised the potential time and fuel savings for people with the bridge’s reopening, highlighting the significance for the community. The NHAI communicated the assurance in response to the BJP mandal’s demand for a definite timeline, leading to the withdrawal of the proposed protest scheduled for January 26.
