Himachal Kisan Sabha and the CITU State Committee staged a strong protest at the DC office in Shimla following the killing of young farmer Shubhkaran Singh and injuries to several others.
During the protest, activists vehemently protested and also burnt effigies of Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Minister Anil Vij.
Workers and farmers, in protest against the barbaric suppression, observed a ‘Black Day’ at several places . The CITU and Kisan Sabha have strongly condemned the brutal and unwarranted use of force by Haryana police and central forces on farmers at the Khanauri and Shambhu borders. This incident resulted in the tragic death of a young farmer.
Subhkaran Singh, son of Charanjeet Singh from Ballo village, succumbed to severe head injuries. Several other farmers have also been injured in the brutal crackdown at the Khanauri and Shambhu borders. Farmers have been subjected to lathi charges, plastic bullets, and tear gas shells.
These farmers’ only fault was that they wanted to fulfill the promises made to them by the government during the agitation for the repeal of the three agricultural laws. The Modi government at the Centre and the BJP government in Haryana are bent on crushing any opposition, using various illegal means.
The working-class farmers will unite across the country on February 26, the day the World Trade Organization’s conference begins in Abu Dhabi, to protest against the anti-national Modi government, which is promoting corporate exploitation of workers and farmers.
In this sequence, a massive farmer-worker assembly will be held at Ramlila Grounds on March 14.
Rakesh Singh, coordinator of the Apple Farmers Federation of India, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, President of the Kisan Sabha, and CITU State President Vijendra Mehra demanded that a case of murder be registered against Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Minister Anil Vij for the killings of farmers.
They also demanded one crore rupees compensation to the martyrs of the farmers’ movement, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, debt relief for farmers, an inquiry by a Supreme Court judge into the killings, compensation for the tractors destroyed by farmers, an end to the destruction of farmers by the World Trade Organization, and an end to the conspiracy to turn farmers into landless laborers by alienating them from farming.
