CISF woman constable Kulwinder Kaur, who was involved in a controversial incident at Chandigarh airport where she slapped Mandi MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, has been transferred to Bengaluru.
Kulwinder has received her transfer letter and has been ordered to join her new post at Bengaluru airport immediately. She was initially suspended following the incident but has since been reinstated. The police registered a case against her under sections 323 (assault) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, this action faced opposition from various farmer organisations.
The incident traces back to a social media post made by Kangana Ranaut on November 27, 2020, during the farmers’ movement in Delhi.
Kangana mistakenly identified farmer Mohinder Kaur of Mansa, Punjab, as Bilkis Bano, a prominent figure in the Shaheen Bagh protests, and posted a photo claiming the woman was available for hire at Rs 100.
Despite deleting the post, screenshots had already gone viral, leading to widespread criticism and a defamation case filed by Mohinder Kaur, which is still ongoing. Kulwinder’s mother too was among the protesters.
Kulwinder, a resident of Kapurthala in Punjab, has served in Chandigarh for the past two and a half years. She is married and has two children, a daughter aged six to seven and a son aged five to six.
Her husband also serves in the CISF. According to her elder brother Sher Singh, the incident occurred during a security check at the scanner where Kangana Ranaut allegedly asserted her position as an MP.
This led to a heated argument and subsequently Kaur slapped Ranaut.
“Kulwinder was doing her duty at the scanner when Kangana approached. There was an exchange of words about her MP status, which escalated. Given the statements Kangana has made about our community, it was natural for emotions to run high. We stand by Kulwinder in this situation,” Sher Singh had said.
