Children below 18 constitute 16 percent of active cases in Himachal

Shimla | TNR

Covid cases have been spiking in the state since July 26, with active cases increasing from 858 to 2668. Of these, 433 are children below the age of 18 forming 16.02 per cent of the total caseload.

Though symptoms of the virus have been seen in all of them, none of these children are in a serious condition and are recovering quickly in their homes.

Caution is the key

Though the impending third wave and its impact, particularly on children, is worrying for parents and family members, the health department has been spreading the message across that caution and not fear is the remedy to the problem.

The department has emphasised the caution aspect since several districts of the state have been seeing children falling prey to the virus in large numbers. In some of them, the infection rate is over 25 per cent. Out of the total active cases in Bilaspur district, 26.3 per cent are children below the age of 18.

21.5 per cent in Chamba district, 18.4 per cent in Hamirpur, 3 per cent in Kangra, 3.4 per cent in Kinnaur, 20.5 per cent in Kullu, 14.3 per cent in Lahaul Spiti, 15 per cent in Mandi, 16.3 per cent in Shimla, 12 per cent in  Sirmaur, 15.6 per cent in Solan and in Una district 14 per cent children below the age of 18 are covid positive.

15 out of 2668 covid patients serious

15 out of 2668 active cases are in critical condition. Of these 6 are from Shimla, 2 from Chamba, 3 from Hamirpur, 1 from Kangra and 3 from Mandi.

While the infection rate was just 0.8 per cent in the state during the third week of July, it has steadily increased and now stands at 2.2 per cent.

Maximum number of critical cases in Chamba

Currently, Chamba district accounts for the maximum number of people infected with 684 active cases. Bilaspur has 171 cases, Hamirpur 288, Kangra 406, Kinnaur 29, Kullu 161, Lahaul Spiti 63, Mandi 447, Shimla 319, Sirmaur 25, Solan 25, and Una has 43 active cases, forcing the government to impose restrictions once again.
