It is home coming, says BJP

Dharamshala: Congressmen in Dharamshala assembly constituency are happy with AAP leader Rakesh Chaudhary joining BJP ahead of Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh.

AAP leaders termed it as a move motivated by personal gains.

BJP, however, termed the entry of Chaudhary into the party as home coming.

Former minister and Congress leader Sudhir Sharma avoided to comment on this move while his supporters said that this has strengthened the position of their leader (Sharma) in this assembly segment.

Block Congress president, Vineet Dhiman, explained that the re-entry of Rakesh Chaudhary to BJP from AAP would fuel dissension in BJP where leaders are already fighting for their political future.

“I am sure that leaders in BJP will start fighting it out in the open while seeking party ticket for assembly elections. Already there are many ticket aspirants and now one more has joined the race,” Dhiman added.

AAP spokesperson Pankaj Pandit said that few people join politics for their personal gains only. “There will be no impact from this defection as people have made up their minds to oust the traditional political parties. Changing sides is for selfish leaders,” he added.

Reacting to Chaudhary rejoing the party, BJP termed it a master stroke before Assembly elections.

Apart from Rakesh Chaudhary, another rebel BJP leader who has moved back to the party is Chetan Bragta. He had contested against party candidate from Jubbal Kotkhai area of Himachal Pradesh in the bye-elections held in October 2021 for which he had been suspended from the party for six years.

Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and MLA from Hamirpur Urmil Thakur too returned to BJP on Thursday.
