Chandigarh-Manali National Highway to remain shut daily for 4 hours at these points in Himachal

The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway will undergo phased closure from Monday to Friday in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh to facilitate the construction of a four-lane road between Bindravani and the Pandoh Transit Camp.

This will result in two daily disruptions to traffic flow, with no vehicles permitted on the route during this period. However, small vehicles can pass through an alternative route via Kataula to reach Kullu.

Each day, the Chandigarh-Manali route will be closed for a total of four hours, split into two phases. The vehicular movement will stop from 11 am to 1 pm during the first phase and from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm in the second phase, making the section from Bindravani to the Pandoh Transit Camp inaccessible to commuters due to ongoing construction work.

The Mandi district police administration emphasised that these closures will occur in two phases throughout the work week, prohibiting the movement of all types of vehicles. The police have urged passengers and the public to plan their journeys accordingly.

As temperatures rise in the plains, tourists are increasingly flocking to Kullu-Manali, particularly on weekends. At present, the closure notice extends only until Friday. It’s anticipated that the weekend surge in tourist vehicles will alleviate the need for further traffic stoppages.

The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway had suffered extensive damage between Mandi and Manali during the devastating monsoon rain in 2023. The newly built four-lane road was swept away by the swollen Beas river at several points.
