Chamba youth arrested at Banikhet homestay with 17.60 gm ‘chitta’, brought drug consignment from Amritsar

CHAMBA: A youth from Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh who was staying at a homestay in Banikhet has been arrested with a consignment of ‘chitta’ (an adulterated form of heroin) from Amritsar in Punjab.
A case had been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at Dalhousie police station, said Chamba SP Abhishek Yadav.
According to information, the Dalhousie police received a tip-off that a youth had brought a consignment of ‘chitta’ from Punjab and was staying at Gateway Homestay in Banikhet.
A team of Dalhousie police station under in-charge Jagveer Singh reached the homestay around 1 am on Sunday night and gathered information about the people staying there. The police came to know about the youth, identified as Naveen from Gaihara area of Chamba district, was staying there. The police along with the homestay staff went to Naveen’s room and conducted a search. During the search operation, ‘chitta’ was recovered from inside the room and it weighed around 17.60 grams.
When interrogated by the police, the youth said he had brought the consignment of drugs from Amritsar in Punjab and he planned to sell it in his area. After the registration of a case under the NDPS Act, the youth was arrested him and he will be presented before the court on Monday (January 8, 2024).
