CHAMBA: Chanchal Nayyar, wife of former Himachal Pradesh Education Minister late Sagar Chand Nayyar and mother of current Chamba MLA Neeraj Nayyar, passed away due to prolonged illness at a Chandigarh hospital on Monday night.
The body will be brought from Chandigarh to Chamba on Tuesday and the last rites will be performed on Wednesday.
Chanchal Nayyar herself was a well-known name in the politics of Chamba district because she was quite active in helping Sagar Chand Nayyar’s political career reach the heights of success. She too contested the municipal council elections. She played an important role in launching Neeraj Nayyar in politics and making him the MLA of Chamba.
Chanchal Nayyar had not been keeping well for the past some time and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chandigarh.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Mandi MP Pratibha Singh, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, former minister Asha Kumari, former minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Dalhousie MLA DS Thakur, former MLA Surendra Bhardwaj, Congress spokesperson Amit Bharmauri, District Congress Committee president Kamal Thakur and Block Congress Committee president Kartar Thakur and former BJP secretary Jai Singh, among others, have expressed condolences over the demise.
