Kaul Singh says no to contesting by-elections due to lack of resources

Mandi/Shimla | TNR
The Congress party’s fall from grace continues as by elections in states soon approach. In stark contrast with the BJP which has been showering funds on its party candidates, a financial crisis brewing within the Congress has left most of its candidates to fend for their own election expenses.
Kaul Singh declines
One such case is that of Kaul Singh, former Congress minister from Mandi. Kaul Singh has refused to contest the Mandi Lok Sabha by election and has readily put forward the name of former MP Pratibha Singh.
Eight time MLA Kaul Singh told reporters in Shimla, “I am short of resources and funds and hence I am withdrawing from the contest. I wish to contest my last assembly elections next year.”
Pratibha Singh, a strong candidate
Kaul Singh said that Pratibha Singh was the most powerful candidate in the Mandi by-election, adding that most Congress party workers of Mandi too were of the same opinion.
“The high command had sought my opinion on contesting the elections, but I refused,” he said. The former minister indirectly targeted Pandit Sukhram family and called Ashray Sharma a weak candidate.
