Una/Dharamshala: Despite the tireless efforts of the administration, dedicated artistes and committed organisers, local carnivals are being overshadowed by lengthy speeches from politicians, which are cutting into artists’ performance time. A viral news article circulating on social media highlights the issue, stating that a renowned artiste was paid Rs 10 lakh for a 30-minute performance at a carnival in Una district, leaving the public dissatisfied.
However, an investigation by The Newz Radar found that the situation is not a result of mismanagement by the administration or organisers, who have worked relentlessly to ensure the success of these events. In fact, much of the disruption is due to the extended speeches by politicians, which delay scheduled performances and frustrate both audiences and artists.
“We come here to enjoy music and entertainment, not political speeches,” said one attendee, expressing the collective disappointment of many who feel that the joy of the festival is being compromised.
Sources within the event’s management team have revealed that while the administration strives to create a well-organised and enjoyable experience, they are often left helpless when politicians take the stage for long, unscheduled speeches.
“The artistes are ready and dedicated, but their time is cut short due to these lengthy addresses. We have worked hard to make these events special, but sometimes we just can’t control the speeches,” explained one organiser.
Currently, this issue is being witnessed at major carnivals in Una and Kangra districts, where similar disruptions have occurred. Insiders shared that a particular politician from the ruling Congress is especially notorious for taking over the event with extended remarks, causing the schedule to run late and cutting into artistes’ stage time.
Despite these challenges, the administration and event organisers continue to deliver high-quality experiences, ensuring that the best talent is showcased. However, the growing frustration among festival-goers is undeniable, as they feel their enjoyment is being sidelined by political grandstanding.
While the efforts of the administration and the dedication of artistes are commendable, it’s clear that political speeches are dampening the festival spirit, turning what should be moments of celebration into arenas for political agendas.
