Cong MLAs to hold strategy meeting before Assembly session on Sept 18

SHIMLA: The Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government in Himachal Pradesh is going to bring a white paper against the financial mismanagement of the former BJP’s Jai Ram regime. Its draft has been finalised in the cabinet sub-committee meeting that lasted for one and a half hours under the chairmanship of Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri on Friday (September 15, 2023) at the Secretariat.
This document will be handed over to Chief Minister Sukhu before the monsoon session that is to start from September 18.Deputy CM Agnihotri said it was being analysed how the financial situation of the state went haywire and what were the triggers during the last five years.
The document will be published in Hindi and English. It will be tabulated during the monsoon session. This is a secret document. Nothing can be made public regarding this right now.Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh are members of the sub-committee.
This will be the first time in Himachal that a white paper is being brought against any previous government regarding financial management in this manner. There has been a lot of politics regarding loan in the state during the last 6-7 years.
Even when it was in opposition, BJP has been accusing the former Virbhadra Singh government of taking excessive loans.Between 2017 and 2022, the BJP government broke all records of taking loans. Due to this, it became a big issue in the Assembly elections also.
When BJP was out of power in the state, according to the Sukhu government, the state had incurred a debt of more than Rs 73,000 crore. Not only this, the government also owes more than Rs 10,000 crore to the employees. Chief Minister Sukhu has repeatedly accused the former Jai Ram government of spoiling the economic health of Himachal.The ruling Congress and the opposition BJP have been presenting different figures regarding debt.
In such a situation, after the release of the white paper, it is expected that the public will know who spoiled the economic health of Himachal. Obviously, after the white paper comes, the opposition will also become aggressive.
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram has already indicated this after the formation of the sub-committee.Mukesh Agnihotri said that on September 18, there will be a meeting of Congress MLAs in the morning at the Chief Minister’s residence, in which the strategy for the Assembly session will be prepared.
The government will answer every question of the opposition in the session. Targeting Jai Ram Thakur, he said that a “big disaster has hit the state, but the BJP leadership is making it an issue for political purposes”.
