MANDI: Life’s trajectory can take a dark turn with a single misstep, yet a thoughtfully considered decision unfolds myriad paths to success. This profound message resonates in ‘One Decision, 1000 Benefits’, a recent publication by Khushboo Sharma from Khaliyar in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh that has been chosen for the Golden Book Award 2024.
The book not only fosters physical and mental well-being but also elevates emotional intelligence, radiating positive energy. In recognition of her contribution, Khushboo Sharma has also received the IAA Author Award at the India Authors Conclave held in Mumbai recently. Renowned for her scientific research with institutes like IIT, IMTECH and YSPUHF, Khushboo Sharma’s book marks a groundbreaking experiment.
In an interview with TNR, Khushboo claims that her book promises to rescue people’s peace of mind and gift everyone a prosperous long life in this fast-paced and technologically thriving era. She emphasised that despite high IQ, people often succumbed to mental health problems, anxiety, hopelessness, substance abuse and neurological disorders. Her book aims to bring about a transformation in thought processes and perceptions, “creating the best version of you in anyone’s mind”.
Khushboo observed that mental illnesses often lack apparent symptoms until an advanced stage is reached. Scientifically validated as more crucial than IQ, emotional intelligence holds the power to enhance personal and professional success. She advocates early training in emotional intelligence for young children to prevent stress later in life. Emphasising the role of books in personality development, especially biographies of world leaders for children, she asserts that mindfulness can contribute to creating a better world.
Expressing concern over the adverse impact of social media on children and teenagers, Khushboo contends that fostering emotional intelligence and self-awareness is paramount. She discusses a United Nations report highlighting mental health challenges among individuals aged 18 to 34 globally, with a projected surge in mental illness cases, according to Harvard University.
The prize-winning author anticipates practical benefits from her book, not only for women and men but also for teenagers and professionals, as it enhances emotional intelligence. While currently available in English, the book is set to be released soon in Hindi and as an audiobook. Additionally, it will be launched in collaboration with CytomX, a scientific cooperative in the United States.
