Offered job as deputy superintendent of police by govt

Varun Kumar, one of the members of the Indian hockey team that won the bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics, will be given a reward of Rs 1 crore by the Himachal Pradesh government.
Varun, a resident of Dalhousie sub-division in Chamba district, has also been offered the job of deputy superintendent of police by the government.
CM’s announcement in Assembly
Addressing the House, the Chief Minister said that it was a matter of pride that the Indian hockey team won an Olympic medal after a gap of 41 years.
He said that there is a provision of awarding Rs 2 crore for the winner of a gold medal in the Olympics, Rs 1 crore for winning a silver medal and Rs 50 lakh for winning a bronze medal.
However, his government modified the rules to award Rs 2 crore for gold medal, Rs 1.20 crore for silver medal and Rs 1 crore for bronze medal.
Hockey academy to be opened in Kangra
State sports minister Rakesh Pathania said that to promote hockey in the state a hockey academy would be set up in Kangra.
Services of Varun would be requested for running this academy, he added.
Sports complex should be set up in Chamba: Asha Kumari
Thanking the Chief Minister for announcing the reward and job for Varun Kumar, Dalhousie MLA Asha Kumari said that a sports training complex should be set up in Chamba district because those interested in taking up hockey as a career have to head for Punjab for training.
