A glimpse into Brigadier Govind Singh Sisodia’s illustrious career

Brigadier Sisodia (retired) VSM, a decorated veteran and esteemed security expert, boasts an illustrious career marked by exemplary service in various security capacities. Recognized with the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for his role in the 26/11 operation, he served with distinction as a member of the NSG’s elite Black Cat Commandos.

His expertise extended to international realms, as evidenced by his involvement in the International Security Contact Group for the Commonwealth Games. Transitioning from his tenure in the NSG, he assumed leadership roles in corporate security, notably with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and later as a security advisor to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Brigadier Sisodia’s valour and commitment to duty have been duly acknowledged through multiple gallantry awards, earned for his courageous actions in combating terrorism across Sri Lanka, Jammu and Kashmir, and during the fateful Mumbai 26/11 attacks.

In an exclusive interview with TNR, Brigadier Sisodia reflected on the challenges faced during the 26/11 crisis, emphasizing the critical distinction between counterterrorism operations and conventional warfare. Amid mounting pressure to swiftly resolve the situation, his strategic acumen guided the meticulous execution of Operation Black Tornado, culminating in a resounding success.

“When dealing with terrorist threats, strategic patience is paramount,” remarked Brigadier Sisodia, underscoring the importance of methodical planning and sustained engagement to outmaneuver adversaries. The NSG’s precision-led operation, resulting in the elimination of nine terrorists and the capture of Ajmal Kasab, exemplified this principle.

Brigadier Sisodia shed light on the intricacies of Kasab’s interrogation, highlighting the strategic use of language and cultural familiarity to extract vital intelligence. By conversing with Kasab in Punjabi, his native tongue, Brigadier Sisodia effectively broke down barriers, eliciting crucial insights into the attackers’ motives and modus operandi. Kasab’s revelation regarding the exploitation of technology, including Google Earth, underscored the evolving nature of modern terrorism.

The decision to capture Kasab alive, despite calls for lethal force, proved pivotal in unmasking Pakistan’s complicity in the attacks. Brigadier Sisodia emphasized that Kasab’s apprehension served as incontrovertible evidence of Pakistan’s state-sponsored terrorism, shattering any semblance of deniability. He underscored the significance of India’s diplomatic leverage, enabled by Kasab’s testimony, in holding Pakistan accountable on the world stage.

Brigadier Sisodia’s unwavering resolve and tactical brilliance stand as a beacon of India’s resilience in the face of adversity. His indelible contributions to national security exemplify the courage and dedication of India’s armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and values.
