Mandi: The body of Jasdeep Singh of Kurali in Punjab, who drowned in the Beas on Friday (June 14, 2024) has been recovered near the Panchvaktra Temple on the riverbank, about 4 km from the incident site.

Jasdeep and his four friends from Punjab were en route to Rohtang when they decided to bathe in the Beas at Bindravani, despite being warned against doing so by locals. Jasdeep was swept away by the strong current of the river while his friend, who had jumped into the river to save the victim, was rescued by a migrant labourer.

The search for Jasdeep had been ongoing for three days, involving teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and divers from Sundernagar. The local residents discovered the body on the riverbank as the Beas level receded. They promptly alerted the Sadar police station.

Mandi ASP Sagar Chandra said the body had been sent for post-mortem at the Zonal Hospital. After the post-mortem is completed, the body will be handed over to Jasdeep’s family.

The rapid melting of snow in the mountains during summer causes the water level in the Pandoh Dam to rise. Consequently, water is periodically released from the dam, which is believed to have carried Jasdeep’s body downstream to the temple area.
