BJP’s Chetan Bragta gets FIR registered in Kotkhai over post calling Nati performers terrorists

SHIMLA: An FIR has been lodged at Kotkhai police station on Sunday (September 15, 2024) against social media account “@TeamSaath” for a post that has stirred widespread outrage in Himachal Pradesh. The post, which can be viewed at this link, labelled people performing the traditional ‘Nati’ dance during the festival of “Jagra” as terrorists, sparking anger and deep hurt among the local population.

“The sacred traditions of Devbhoomi Himachal, including the ‘Nati’ dance performed during religious festivals like Jagra, are integral to the cultural and spiritual heritage of the state. Equating these age-old traditions with terrorism has not only insulted the performers but has also hurt the religious sentiments of millions of people in Himachal Pradesh,” said Chetan Singh Bragta, spokesperson of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, strongly condemning the offensive post.

In a press note, Bragta stated, “I have lodged an FIR at the police station concerned and called for strict legal action against those responsible for this hateful act. Such irresponsible and divisive actions on social media platforms will not be tolerated.”

Bragta also urged the public to refrain from promoting or engaging in similar negative activities and called for maintaining peace and religious harmony. “It is crucial to uphold the respect and sanctity of our religious and cultural practices, and we will continue to take firm steps against any offensive activity,” he added.

The FIR seeks legal action against those responsible for the post and the authorities are investigating the matter to prevent further disruption of social harmony. As tensions rise over the disrespect shown toward one of the state’s most revered cultural practices, leaders have appealed for calm and a united stand against such divisive behaviour.
