The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee has hit back at BJP MP Sikander Kumar, with media panelist Shagun Dutt Sharma accusing him of making “baseless and wild statements” about Theog in Shimla district. He said the Rajya Sabha MP was making statements about Theog while sitting in Nadaun.
In a statement released on Tuesday (July 9, 2024), Sharma criticised Kumar for “speaking without verifying facts”, suggesting that he should “get the knowledge of the facts before sitting and talking ignorantly”.
Sharma defended Theog MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, who recently raised concerns about the quality of a hospital’s construction, a project initiated during the previous BJP government. According to Sharma, Rathore, known for his integrity, has consistently advocated for his constituents’ interests and raised his voice against corruption. “Since the Congress came into power, we have taken stringent actions against corruption, contrasting with the BJP’s protection of corrupt practices,” he said.
The Congress leader also pointed out that a girls’ hostel built during the BJP government’s tenure was declared unsafe, further questioning the quality of projects overseen by the previous administration. He accused Kumar of “attempting to gain cheap popularity” by using Rathore’s name and emphasised that such tactics would not succeed.
“The BJP leaders are panicking due to the Congress government’s efforts to expose irregularities from the BJP’s tenure,” Sharma stated. He asserted that Congress MLAs were united and would not succumb to the BJP’s “money power and cheap politics”.
