Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) organised a “Samosa March” in Shimla, intensifying their attack on the Congress-led state government over the recent “samosa scandal”.
The protest, featuring BJYM members marching with trays of samosas, aimed to ridicule Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who recently found himself embroiled in controversy after a CID inquiry was launched into “missing samosas” at a government program.
BJYM state president Tilak Raj Sharma, addressing the gathering, criticised the Sukhu government, saying, “Himachal has become a joke across the country.
Ridicule over issues like toilet tax and now samosas is tarnishing the state’s image. Himachal’s people are innocent, but they’re not fools. The government must focus on development rather than these trivial matters.”
He added that “Samosa March” represents the “frustration” of the people over what they view as the Congress government’s misplaced priorities.
The “samosa scandal” began after samosas ordered during a government program at the police headquarters allegedly went missing, prompting a CID inquiry.
Opposition leaders quickly pounced on the incident, accusing the government of conducting “snack-level” investigations while neglecting pressing issues.
The BJP has argued that this “samosa investigation” reflects poorly on the government’s administrative focus, suggesting that it prioritizes trivial issues over the state’s welfare.
Chief Minister Sukhu responded to the “samosa controversy” protests with humour, asserting that the BJP’s antics stem from frustration over the failed “Operation Lotus” during the Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh.
Sukhu, who was offered a samosa by Congress leader Pawan Khera at a recent Maharashtra event, quipped in a press conference, “When I was offered a samosa, I asked if politics here is on samosas or on development and respect for women.
The truth will always prevail over lies, no matter how many samosas are involved.”
Himachal CID DGP Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha has clarified that there was no official probe, calling the incident an “internal misunderstanding” regarding refreshments.
Yet, social media humor has kept the “samosa row” in the limelight, with BJP leaders, including former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, sharing satirical posts that have fueled the online frenzy.
