BJP changes venue of Amit Shah’s Dharamshala rally, eyes bigger gathering

DHARAMSHALA: As the voting day approaches on June 1, political fervour is intensifying in Himachal Pradesh with both major political parties BJP and Congress rolling out the rallies of their star campaigners.

The BJP has finalised the tour of its star campaigner and Union Minister Amit Shah. He is scheduled to visit the Hamirpur and Kangra parliamentary constituencies on May 25, 2024. His first programme will be at Mela Ground in in Una district at 9.30 am. Following this, he will address a rally at the Police Ground at Dharamshala in Kangra district at 11.30 am. Initially, the Dharamshala rally was planned for Zorawar Stadium, but it has now been relocated to the Police Ground.

Vipin Singh Parmar, BJP in-charge of the Kangra-Chamba parliamentary constituency, confirmed in a press release that Amit Shah will address a public meeting at 11.30 am at Police Ground on Saturday on May 25. Parmar highlighted the enthusiasm among BJP leaders, workers and the public, stating that they were anticipating a participation of 20,000 people. This rally is expected to bolster the prospects of BJP candidate Sudhir Sharma in the Dharamshala Assembly constituency.

On the other hand, the Congress is also preparing to announce the tours of its star campaigners. According to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who spoke to journalists on May 23 in Dharamshala, top leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were expected to lead the Congress campaign in Himachal Pradesh.

While Priyanka will address rallies in Mandi, Shimla, Solan on May 29 and 30, Rahul would attend public meetings in Una and Nahan on May 26.

With both parties ramping up their campaigns, the political atmosphere in Himachal Pradesh is charged, promising an intense lead-up to the voting day.
