CHAMBA: It is both unimaginable and extraordinary that an individual who faced beatings and imprisonment during the 1990s for the construction of the Ram Temple has now received an invitation to participate in the consecration ceremony of the grand monument in Ayodhya on January 22 (2024).
“Never did I anticipate that the longstanding controversial issue, spanning 500 years, would find resolution in my lifetime, affording me the opportunity to partake in the ‘Pran Pratistha’ programme of the Ayodhya Ram Temple,” says Mahant Yatendra Giri of Dashnam Akhara in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba.
Reflecting on the sacrifices made by hundreds of Naga sadhus and saints who laid down their lives for the construction of the Ram Temple, Mahant Yatendra Giri recounted his alleged involvement in the movement to dismantle the Babri Masjid structure alongside his guru, Umashankar Giri. Despite facing imprisonment during the movement, receiving an invitation to the Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ felt like the realisation of a dream from the “Ram Yug”.
Mahant Yatendra Giri disclosed that 62 persons from Himachal Pradesh, including himself, have been invited to participate in the event. Departing from Chamba on January 14, he will reach Ayodhya on January 20 after visiting various religious sites. Security measures have been diligently undertaken following the recent application, with instructions to arrive at the venue before 11 am on January 22, covering a distance of approximately 1 km on foot.
Expressing the elation within the saint community regarding the temple consecration event, Mahant Yatendra Giri conveyed the prevailing belief that Lord Rama is on the “verge of rebirth”. He highlighted the joyous atmosphere among Sanatanis and their collective happiness with the construction progress of the grand temple dedicated to their beloved Lord Rama.
Mahant Ravi Giri of Digambar Jai Krishna Giri Ashram, situated in Mahla of Chamba district, described Mahant Yatendra Giri’s invitation from Ayodhya as a source of pride and joy for the entire Chamba district, emphasiSing that his participation truly represents the collective spirit of the region.
