Two brothers from Haryana employed with a pharmaceutical unit in Kala Amb area of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh were in for the shock of their life when they recently tried to withdraw money from an ATM.
Sukhjit and Ranjit have been putting up at Rampur Jattan in Kala Amb and when they came across an exigency on January 10, the brothers decided to withdraw money from a nearby State Bank of India ATM.
To their surprise, their commands to withdraw Rs 5,000 each from the ATM transferred the money to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
As all immediate attempts at cancelling the transactions proved futile, the brothers sought help from the bank manager concerned as their accounts too were with the SBI. But he too expressed helplessness at getting the amount recovered, following which the duo lodged a complaint with the police.
Hailing from Manyola tehsil of Ambala district in Haryana, Sukhjit and Ranjit have been grieving at the loss of their hard-earned money. They were more shocked as the bank manager refused to come to their rescue.
A police official said the bank authorities will now have to send a recovery notice to the bank branch in Patna (Bihar) where the money was “erroneously transferred”.
