Athletes Nishad Kumar and Preeti Pal Shine at Paris Paralympics: India Secures Two More Medals
Athletes Nishad Kumar from Himachal Pradesh and Preeti Pal from Uttar Pradesh have added two more medals to India’s tally at the Paris Paralympics with outstanding performances.
Nishad Kumar won a silver medal in the high jump by clearing a height of 2.04 meters, replicating his achievement at the Tokyo Paralympics where he also cleared 2.04 meters to win a silver medal.
Preeti Pal, on the other hand, clinched a bronze medal in the T-35 category 200-meter race with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. Earlier in the same Paralympics, she had also won a bronze in the 100-meter race. So far, India has secured seven medals at the Paralympics, with three more silver medals assured in badminton.

Nishad Kumar hails from the village of Badau in Amb Tehsil, Una district of Himachal Pradesh. His remarkable achievement has brought pride not only to his village but to the entire state and country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nishad Kumar on his silver medal win, along with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and BJP state president Rajeev Bindal.

Despite losing his right wrist in an accident at the age of six when it got caught in a fodder-cutting machine, Nishad did not give up. As the only son of a poor farmer, his injury was a significant blow to his family, but Nishad turned this tragedy into a stepping stone toward his sports career.
From Humble Beginnings to the World Stage
After completing his secondary education, Nishad moved to Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula for advanced training, despite the financial challenges faced by his family. His mother sold milk, and his father worked as a laborer to support his training.
Recognizing his talent, coach Naseem Ahmed played a crucial role in refining Nishad’s skills and preparing him for international competitions. Nishad’s hard work and dedication have brought him success on the global stage, proving that with determination and support, even the most significant challenges can be overcome.
