At IMA passing-out, Himachal beats big states like Gujarat, Karnataka, MP in sending officers to Army

SHIMLA: Though Himachal Pradesh accounts for a mere .57 per cent of the country’s population, it has stood eighth among all states and UTs in the number of Army officers who belonged to the state and passed out of Indian Military Academy in Gaya on Saturday (December 9, 2023).
Fourteen youth from Himachal Pradesh joined the Army as lieutenants. The hill state beat more prosperous states like Gujarat and Karnataka in the tally.
Of the 343 cadets who passed out, the maximum 68 cadets were from Uttar Pradesh. At second position, 42 officers are from Uttarakhand, which is a big leap for the hill state. Thirty-four officers are from Rajasthan, 28 from Maharashtra, 27 from Bihar, 22 from Haryana, 20 from Punjab, 11 from Karnataka, 10 each from Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi and West Bengal, nine from Kerala, seven from Madhya Pradesh, five each from Jharkhand and Odisha, four each from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, three from Chandigarh, two each from Gujarat, Telangana, Assam and Manipur and one each from Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
After participating in the pipping and oath ceremony held after the parade, all the gentlemen cadets became lieutenants in the Army.
On the occasion, Western Command GOC Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, IMA Commandant Lieutenant General VK Mishra and a large number of military officers and family members of the cadets were present to encourage the young inductees.
