Anurag Thakur files nomination, eyes fifth consecutive victory from Hamirpur

Shimla seat rivals BJP’s Suresh Kashyap. Cong’s Vinod Sultanpuri too officially enter race
The nomination phase for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and Assembly byelections is in full swing in Himachal Pradesh with the process set to conclude on Tuesday (May 14, 2024).
On Monday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, BJP’s candidate from the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency, submitted his nomination papers for his fifth consecutive election from the constituency.
Anurag’s nomination was accompanied by a formidable display of support as he made his way to the DC office in Hamirpur. Prior to filing his nomination, Anurag sought divine blessings at the temple of Avahadevi deity, underscoring the significance of spiritual invocation in his political journey.
Sitting MP Suresh Kashyap, BJP’s candidate from the Shimla parliamentary constituency, also filed his nomination papers in Shimla, asserting his electoral strength and commitment to the campaign.
Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri, the Congress candidate for the Shimla Lok Sabha seat, too filed his nomination from Shimla. Present alongside Sultanpuri were Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Congress state president Pratibha Singh and MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, showcasing a united front within the party. Following his nomination, Sultanpuri addressed a Congress rally held at Chaura Maidan, symbolising the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.
Former BJP minister Ramlal Markanda threw his hat into the ring as an independent candidate from Lahaul-Spiti Assembly constituency. Markanda submitted his nomination papers at the SDM office in Keylong, setting the stage for a three-cornered contest in the tribal seat.
