DHARAMSHALA: Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has alleged that former Congress president Rahul Gandhi had fielded family loyalist from Amethi as both his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra were vying for the Lok Sabha poll ticket from the seat once considered the Nehru-Gandhi family’s stronghold.
Speaking to the media at the Gaggal airport in Kangra, Anurag alleged that Rahul himself was scared of fighting from Amethi and thus chose to hide in Raebareli. “But the people of Raebareli won’t spare him either. He will taste defeat, as he did in Amethi at the hands of BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019,” said Anurag.
Anurag was accorded a warm welcome by BJP workers at the airport from where he headed to attend a Radha Soami ‘satsang’ at Palampur in Kangra and then a ‘Panna Pramukh’ conference at Sujanpur in Hamirpur parliamentary constituency.
The minister alleged that Rahul used to say “don’t be afraid” to his supporters, and that now the Congress leader himself was “scared and running from Amethi to Wayanad and now from Wayanad to Raebareli out of fear”. “This shows the fear of defeat is taking him places,” he said.
The minister alleged that Rahul could not get justice for his sister Priyanka as her husband Robert Vadra too wanted to fight from Amethi. About the Lok Sabha elections in Himachal, Anurag claimed that as was the case in 2014 and 2019, the BJP would win all four seats this time too.
