Anshu Malik becomes the 1st Indian woman and the 6th wrestler from the country overall to reach the World Championship finals

Anshu Malik will face off against the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Helen Maroulis in the finals, as she hopes to emulate Sushil Kumar and clinch a historic gold medal at the World Wrestling Championships. Malik gained a 2-0 lead to start off against her Ukrainian opponent and doubled her advantage going into the break. She eventually clinched an 11-0 win, in a show of great offensive strength.

Four Indian women wrestlers have won medals at the Worlds and all of them — Geeta Phogat (2012), Babita Phogat (2012), Pooja Dhanda (2018) and Vinesh Phogat (2019) — have clinched bronze.
