SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a two-day holiday in all schools, colleges and universities across the state on July 10 and 11 (2023) in view of the alert for heavy rains.
Heavy rains have been battering the state for the past few days. The Director of Higher Education has already issued the necessary orders to implement the directive. The announcement follows an earlier statement made by the deputy commissioners of Kullu, Mandi and Lahaul-Spiti to close all educational institutions in their respective districts on Monday (July 10, 2023) due to the adverse weather conditions.
The continuous rainfall has resulted in the blockage of several link roads and a red alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department. Taking into consideration the safety and well-being of students, Chief Minister Sukhu has extended the closure to two days for July 10 and 11. This decision aims to mitigate any potential risks associated with travelling during the heavy downpour.
