In the aftermath of his party’s defeat in the Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh, Congress MLA Rajinder Rana has stirred a controversy by suggesting that changing the Chief Minister could pave the way for the return of disgruntled MLAs to the party fold.
Rana, one of the six Congress MLAs accused of cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha polls on Tuesday (February 27, 2024), conveyed his sentiments to Congress national general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal and party in-charge Rajeev Shukla. He claimed that the discontent among MLAs had been communicated to the party’s top brass, leaving the decision-making process in the hands of the top party leadership.
The revelation comes amidst reports indicating that several aggrieved Congress MLAs have warned the party high command of their willingness to resign should their demands for leadership change remain unmet.
The recent Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh witnessed a significant upset for the ruling Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government as BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan secured victory through cross-voting. The deadlock persisted as 34 MLAs each from Congress and BJP camps cast their votes, with Mahajan eventually clinching the seat via the lottery system.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sudhir Sharma extended his congratulations to BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan on social media following his victory in the Rajya Sabha elections. Sharma’s post, featuring Guru’s words, underscored the sentiment of determination amidst political upheaval, highlighting the evolving dynamics within the state’s political milieu.
