Agriculture University Ranking Drops, While IIT Mandi Rises in NIRF 2024

Mandi / Palampur: In a mixed outcome for Himachal Pradesh’s educational institutions, the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 rankings have shown a decline for CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, while the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has made significant strides.
CSK HP Agricultural University Drops to 19th Place
CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, has seen its ranking slip to 19th place in the overall Agriculture and Allied Sectors category, and 13th among State Agricultural Universities. This drop has raised concerns about the university’s current standing and its future direction in the highly competitive field of agricultural education.

IIT Mandi Secures 8th Position in Innovation Category
On a more positive note, IIT Mandi has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the 8th position in the Innovation category of NIRF 2024. This accomplishment highlights IIT Mandi’s growing reputation as a leader in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition to this achievement, IIT Mandi has improved its rankings in other areas, now standing at 31st in the Engineering category and 72nd in the Overall category.
National Rankings Announced by Education Minister
The rankings, conducted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, were announced on August 12, 2024, by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the Hon’ble Education Minister, in New Delhi. During the announcement, Shri Pradhan emphasized the importance of NIRF rankings in promoting transparency and continuous improvement within India’s higher education sector.
“The Ministry of Education has consistently integrated feedback from higher educational institutions to make the ranking process more progressive and transparent. I encourage all institutions, both public and private, to participate in NIRF as it helps benchmark their performance and drive excellence,” stated Shri Pradhan.

The NIRF 2024 rankings cover a wide array of categories, including overall, university, colleges, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medical, and architecture. This year, three new categories were introduced: open universities, skill universities, and state-funded government universities, further broadening the scope of the rankings.
