Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has alleged that a member of Delhi Chief Minister and party convener Arvind Kejriwal’s personal staff misbehaved with her.
Maliwal, the former chairperson of the Delhi Commission of Women, visited the Civil Lines police station on Monday (May 13, 2024) to report the matter even as no formal complaint was filed with the police. “She accused a member of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal staff of misbehaviour,” according to police officials.
Maliwal is also learnt to have called up on the PCR number following the alleged verbal altercation, officials stated. She made two calls around 10 am, following which a team from the Civil Lines police station visited the Chief Minister’s residence. There has been no immediate response from either Chief Minister Kejriwal’s residence or from Aam Aadmi Party, which is in power in Delhi.
In March 2023, Maliwal had grabbed the headlines when she alleged that as a child, she was sexually abused by her father. Her comments had come at a function organised by the Delhi Commission of Women for the felicitation of around 100 women with awards.
Maliwal had alleged that there used to be a time she would hide under her bed out of fear. “I was sexually abused by my father when I was a child. He used to beat me up; I used to hide under the bed. As a child, I used to plan how I would teach a lesson to such men who abuse women and children, and how I can help women get what they deserve,” she said.
The Rajya Sabha MP had alleged that her father would grab her by the hair and slam her against the wall, leading to severe injuries. “This happened till I was in Class 4, after which we left him,” she said.
