In a significant political development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal has proposed Education Minister Atishi as his successor for the role of Delhi Chief Minister. The official announcement is expected to be made at 12 pm on Tuesday, following the AAP legislative party meeting.
Legislative Party to finalise decision
The AAP has called for a legislative party meeting ahead of the announcement, during which the decision to name Kejriwal’s replacement will be finalised. A party functionary confirmed the timing, stating, “The name of the new CM will be announced at 12 noon today after the legislative party meeting.”The move comes after Kejriwal’s announcement on Sunday to step down as Delhi’s chief minister. He had declared his intention to resign, stating that he would only return to the position when he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the people.
Assembly session from Sept 26-27
In line with the leadership transition, the Delhi Assembly will be convened on September 26 and 27, where the new chief minister is likely to formally take charge. Atishi, a prominent figure in AAP, has played a key role in shaping the party’s education policies and is expected to bring her vision for governance to the forefront, should she assume the position.
This leadership change marks a critical moment for AAP, as it looks to redefine its governance approach while Kejriwal continues to play a significant role in the party’s national ambitions.
