Taking cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who she describes as her political “mentor and guiding light”, BJP candidate from Mandi parliamentary constituency and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut took charge of a tea stall in Himachal Pradesh’s Bharmour in Chamba during a trip for campaigning.

Kangana, who is making her political debut, tried to emulate Prime Minister Modi, who too claims to have worked at a tea stall run by his father in his childhood.

Known for often courting controversies with her statements, the actress tried to gain the firsthand experience of the challenges faced by locals in Bharmour. During her visit to Kugati and Poolan gram panchayats, she had to traverse about 150 metres of narrow and rugged path on foot, leaving her breathless at times.

“This experience underscored the effort required to establish oneself in the political arena. It also provided her with a glimpse into the everyday struggles faced by the residents of remote areas even in the era of 5G technology,” said a BJP supporter walking with her.

During her return journey through the tribal region of Bharmour, the actress took a hands-on approach by personally preparing tea at a local dhaba in Rakh. She then served the tea to the dhaba owner and other persons accompanying her. Kangana’s videos of preparing tea at the dhaba have gone viral.

Prime Minister Modi in 2021 inaugurated a revamped Vadnagar railway station in Gujarat’s Mehsana district where he used to sell tea during his childhood. “My numerous memories are connected with this station,” Modi had said after inaugurating the redeveloped Vadnagar railway station in his home town. PM Modi’s father Damodardas Modi had a tea stall inside the Vadnagar railway station. During his younger days, the PM used to help his father sell tea at the station.
