As the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government in Himachal Pradesh completes its two-year tenure on December 11, the Himachal BJP has launched a campaign to highlight what it alleges are the government’s failures.
Leading the charge is BJP MLA and former Congress minister Sudhir Sharma, who has a long-standing rivalry with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Once influential figures within Congress, Sudhir Sharma and Sukhu were at loggerheads after the Dharamshala MLA was denied a place in the Congress cabinet, eventually pushing Sharma to leave the party.
Now a BJP MLA from Dharamshala, Sharma has been assigned to “expose” Sukhu’s government, adding a personal edge to the critique.
While the Congress plans to celebrate its tenure with an event in Bilaspur and has invited the party’s top brass for it, the BJP has officially tasked Sudhir Sharma and four other leaders with a “public awareness tour” across districts, aiming to bring attention to what it calls Congress’s “two years of inaction.”
Sudhir Sharma’s attack on Sukhu government
Thanking BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal for this role, Sudhir Sharma pointed out that Congress’s 10 key guarantees remained largely unfulfilled, leaving development stagnant and the public disappointed. He argued that the two years under Sukhu’s leadership have been marked by “inaction and corruption,” and vowed to bring these issues to the forefront.
The coming weeks will likely see an intensified showdown, as BJP, led by Sharma, counters the Congress’ celebrations with a targeted campaign to spotlight the government’s perceived shortcomings.
