General house of Himachal Secretariat employees today, these demands likely to be raised with govt

Himachal Secretariat employees

In Himachal Pradesh, the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government has announced a series of relief measures for government employees and pensioners during the festive season.
Along with a 4 per cent dearness allowance (DA) hike, the government will clear pending medical bills and provide advance salaries and pensions on October 28, ahead of Diwali. These announcements have helped ease some of the resentment brewing among the state’s employees and pensioners.

Employee general house meeting today

While employees and pensioners appear to be pleased with the festive announcements, a general house meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat employees will be held today at 1.30 pm to discuss several long-pending demands.

The employees will express their gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhu for addressing some of their concerns, particularly the DA hike and medical bill payments. However, they also plan to use the meeting to press for unresolved issues.

Pending demands to be raised

Sanjeev Sharma, president of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat Services Federation, thanked the Chief Minister for the recent decisions. He acknowledged that the 4% DA installment, payment of pending medical bills and advance salaries and pensions are welcome steps. “We had planned the general house meeting for October 15 and while we appreciate the government’s gestures, we still need to discuss our other pending demands,” Sharma said.

Key demands likely to be discussed in today’s meeting include the payment of arrears for employees covering the period from 2016 to 2022, the regularisation of contract employees twice a year and the formulation of a policy for outsourced workers. Another demand expected to be raised is the withdrawal of the privilege motion, a contentious issue among employees.

Festive relief vs long-term strategy

While the festive relief measures have brought temporary relief to thousands of government employees and pensioners, today’s meeting is expected to reflect the growing concerns over unresolved issues. The employees’ association will strike a balance between appreciation for the immediate gifts provided by the government and a long-term strategy to ensure that pending demands are addressed in a timely manner.
