Sarkaghat: The once bustling playground of Government College at Sarkaghat in Mandi district has now turned into a shelter for stray animals, much to the dismay of students and staff.
The area, which was once a hub for sports and student activities, is now overrun with stray cows and other animals, leading to a significant disruption in the college’s daily routine.
Students have expressed concern over the presence of these animals, which not only detracts from the campus’s aesthetic appeal but also poses safety risks. “Stray animals enter the campus at any time, interrupting our studies and extracurricular activities. We are often scared they might attack suddenly,” said a group of students who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Despite these ongoing issues, the students allege that the college administration has yet to take any decisive action to address the situation. The growing number of stray animals has transformed what was once a place of learning and physical activity into what students are now calling a “gau sadan” or cow shelter.
The students urged the college authorities to take swift and effective measures to restore the playground to its intended use and to ensure a safe and conducive environment for education and sports.
