Dharamshala: A 70-year-old widow from Mcloedganj, who was struggling to make ends meet after her shop was demolished by the municipal corporation, has received a ray of hope.
The widow, who depended on her small shop for her livelihood and her son’s medical expenses, found herself in dire straits when the authorities demolished her shop under the Smart City Act.
Left with no source of income and with her son battling blood cancer, her plight caught the attention of the Newz Radar, who highlighted her story. Following this, the Bhagshu Pahal Society stepped in and provided her with much-needed financial assistance of ₹20,000.
The widow’s story sheds light on the challenges faced by street vendors in the region and the need for a more compassionate approach towards their relocation.
The Municipal Corporation of Dharamshala’s campaign against street vendors violating the Town Vending Act adds another layer to the ongoing debate on the rights and livelihoods of street vendors.
