Gastric medicine pantoprazole is among seven drugs manufactured in Himachal Pradesh that have failed to clear the safety standards of regulatory tests. In all, 35 medicines from across the country are on the list.
These drugs failed to clear the mandatory tests during a checking in December 2021 by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, which is a regulatory authority for pharmaceuticals and drugs.
State Drug Controller Navneet Marwah said not only the licences of the companies that manufactured these drugs had been cancelled, they had also been issued show-cause notices and told to recall their stocks from the market.
Besides, inspections will be carried at their manufacturing plants, he said. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation had collected 1,385 drug samples from the market in December. Of these, 33 failed safety tests while two samples didn’t meet the set standards. The remaining 1,350 samples were found fine.
