6 Jammu and Kashmir men killed in Himachal road accident, were employed as labourers by a contractor

SHIMLA: Six persons were killed while six others were injured when a Pickup vehicle in which they were travelling fell into a deep gorge in Kadharghat area of Sunni in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh.

According to information, the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and the Pickup went off the road into the gorge. The injured were rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital in Shimla for treatment.

The accident occurred on a link road connecting Sunni with Kingal. Most of the victims were reportedly labourers employed by a contractor. The locals, witnessing the accident, alerted the authorities. With the assistance of villagers, the police swiftly evacuated the injured to Sunni hospital.
Three persons succumbed to their injuries at the accident site while another victim died en route to Sunni hospital. Two more casualties were reported later at IGMC where the injured had been referred in view of the severity of their condition. The deceased labourers belonged to Jammu and Kashmir.
Shimla Additional SP Sunil Negi said the police had initiated an investigation to ascertain the factors leading to the incident.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed grief over the deaths. He directed the district authorities to provide immediate relief to the next of kin of the deceased and best possible treatment to the injured, besides wishing for their speedy recovery.
