Dharamshala: Stamp vendors, who have been working on a commission of only 4% for the past 61 years, are now demanding an increase in their commission to 10%. Instead of holding stock, they are also advocating for the inclusion of stamp vendors in the e-stamping process. This demand was raised by the Kangra Stamp Vendors Union during a press conference in Dharamshala on Tuesday.
Babu Ram Sharma, the president of the union in Sirmaur, emphasized the importance of maintaining manual stamping alongside e-stamping, as many individuals still rely on manual processes due to a lack of computer literacy. The union is urging for stamp vendors to directly conduct e-stamping activities rather than routing them through Lokmitra/Common Service Centers or banks. They also demand proper seating arrangements and other facilities for stamp vendors to ensure smooth operations. If the Revenue Department fails to increase the commission from 4%, they insist on ensuring a monthly stipend for each stamp vendor.
The implementation of e-stamping is estimated to cost around one lakh rupees, and the union is calling for interest-free loans from the government to cover this expense. Additionally, they propose keeping the stamp limit unrestricted. The union has submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Secretary urging prompt action on their demands.
