Around 50 outsourced employees, who had been serving for over 15 years in the Jal Shakti Department’s Nadaun division in Hamirpur, found themselves jobless overnight.
The workers, who were employed in roles such as operator, beldar and chowkidar were abruptly dismissed, leading to immediate unemployment. In response, the affected workers approached Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amarjit Singh, submitting a memorandum and pleading for their reinstatement.
The sacked workers have expressed deep frustration, accusing the government of neglecting their years of dedicated service. “We’ve given our youth to this department, and now, without warning, we are being replaced by new hires favored by the government,” said a member of the delegation that met DC Hamirpur.

These employees, now facing an uncertain future, shared their concerns about the increasing difficulty of finding new employment as they age. “How will we feed our families? We’ve devoted years to this work, and now we’re left with nothing,” said one of the workers.
The dismissed workers are not only seeking local administrative help but have also made an emotional appeal to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. “Workers from the Chief Minister’s own district have been let go. Is this the Diwali gift we’ve been given? We’ve gone to the CM’s office, but there’s been no response yet,” said Vipan Kumar, one of the affected employees.
The employees are urging the government to take swift action and reinstate them, emphasising that they have no other means to support their families.
