5 Una villages report pollution issues as Punjab factory discharges untreated water

A delegation of farmers and representatives from village panchayats in Sanoli, Mazara, Malukpur, Beenewal and Poona in Una met Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in Shimla under the leadership of Finance Commission Chairman Satpal Satti.

The delegation apprised the Chief Minister of their long-standing problems, including power, drinking water and irrigation issues.

They alleged the water in the area had been contaminated by chemical water. The main reason for this, they alleged, was a chemical factory located on the Punjab border, which was discharging untreated water directly into the ground.

Due to this, about 40 private and government tubewells, hand pumps and wells of these five adjoining villages had been facing problems, they alleged.

The Chief Minister has asked Energy Minister Sukh Ram Chaudhary to visit the area and look into the issue.
