450 students from 12 Mandi schools, colleges participate in Gita Jayanti function

MANDI: Deputy Commissioner of Mandi Arindam Chaudhary and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Om Kant Thakur joined the IIT-Mandi Student Gymkhana in the celebration ceremony of Gita Jayanti on Friday (December 22, 2023). The gymkhana, a body of students, hosted the Gita Jayanti celebration, bringing together more than 450 students from over 12 schools and colleges in Mandi district.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Arindam Chaudhary said, “Bhagavad Gita is the exponent behind the thought process of Indians. It primarily talks about ethics, duty and morality. Every student’s duty is to study these teachings, woven into the fabric of Indian philosophy. Today’s event is an opportunity for students to absorb valuable lessons and carry them forward, implementing the wisdom of the Gita into their lives.”
This Gita Jayanti celebration marked the culmination of a Bhagavad Gita theme-based competition that engaged over 20,000 participants nationwide. The Deputy Commissioner distributed prizes to the enthusiastic student participants, recognising their commendable efforts.
A key highlight of the celebration was a special chorus recitation of the Bhagavad Gita, paying homage to the enlightening conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. This symbolic recitation beautifully encapsulated the timeless wisdom embedded in the sacred scripture.
During the event, Prof Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi, conducted a mega quiz for the students, serving as an engaging and enlightening platform designed to disseminate the teachings and insights derived from the Bhagavad Gita. This entertaining quiz aimed to go beyond conventional methods of instruction and provided a dynamic and interactive approach for participants to actively engage with the philosophical and spiritual principles embedded in the Bhagavad Gita.
During the closing ceremony, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Om Kant Thakur emphasised the imperative of directing our efforts towards building a developed India. Along with this, he also underscored the importance of conserving our civilization and culture while concurrently fostering a scientific temper.
