4 dead in HRTC bus accident in Shimla’s Jubbal, 3 critically injured

Four persons, including the driver, were killed while three others were critically injured when a bus from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation’s (HRTC) Rohru depot in Shimla district met with an accident.

The bus, en route from Kuddu to Giltadi under Jubbal tehsil, veered off the road and rolled down a hill, coming to a stop on the road below. The accident occurred early Friday (June 21, 2024) morning, shortly after the bus departed Kuddu at approximately 6 am.

 

The bus was carrying five passengers and the driver and conductor. After travelling about 4 km from its starting point, the vehicle lost control and tumbled down the hillside.

According to initial reports, two persons died instantly at the accident site. Two others succumbed to their injuries before they could reach the hospital. The remaining three passengers sustained serious injuries and have been transported to Rohru Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The police administration arrived at the scene to begin inquest proceedings and an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Among the deceased are:
1. Karam Dass, bus driver
2. Rakesh Kumar, conductor
3. Birma Devi, wife of Amar Singh
4. Dhan Shah, son of Chander Shah and a resident of Nepal

The Injured passengers:
1. Jiyender Rangta
2. Deepika, daughter of Sanjay Thakur of Giltari
3. Hast Bahadur

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Rohru was present at the site, overseeing the rescue and investigation efforts. Jubbal SDM Rajeev Sankhyan confirmed the incident and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
