Three persons belonging to Punjab were killed in a road accident when the vehicle they were traveling in rolled down into a gorge on the Shoghi-Mehli bypass road in Shimla on Monday night.
According to disaster management authorities, the Mahindra Maxximo rolled down about 900 metres. Four persons were travelling in this car. While three persons died on the spot, the fourth sustained minor injuries and was rushed to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Krishan (30), son of Chandiya, a resident of Bhangal in Nangal; Amar (18), son of Jaile Singh, a resident of Bhangal, and Rajveer (16), son of Aitwari, a resident of Machiwada in Ludhuana.
The police have started inquest proceedings and the relatives of the deceased have been informed about the accident. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a steep turn even though the exact cause behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained.
