MANDI: After a month-long search, the Mandi district administration in Himachal Pradesh has officially concluded its operation to locate the victims buried in the aftermath of a devastating flashflood at Sambal village, adjacent to Pandoh.
Despite efforts, no trace of three missing persons has been found.According to information, the tragedy unfolded on the morning of August 14 when Nitesh’s house was washed away in a flashflood that hit the village. It resulted in the burial of Nitesh’s 18-year-old wife Monica, his 17-year-old sister Ravita and his six-month-old daughter Sania under debris.
His mother Rachna Devi (45) and another sister, Gopi (11), suffered injuries from the falling debris but survived. Nitesh and his 15-year-old sister Jhanvi miraculously escaped the disaster.Over the past month, the district administration worked tirelessly, deploying heavy machinery and conducting extensive searches in an attempt to locate the missing bodies.
Despite their efforts, no sign of the victims could be found. The grieving family has now given their consent to halt the search operation.Nitesh expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support provided by the administration throughout this challenging period.
“This is a lifelong pain that I and my family will carry, having been unable to bid a final farewell to their loved ones. In their quest for closure and peace,” said Nitesh. He and his family have decided to perform a puja in Haridwar to pay homage to the departed souls.
