The sacred Manimahesh Yatra in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh took a tragic turn on Wednesday morning when three devotees lost their lives in an accident. Thousands of devotees from across the country have been flocking to Chamba for the pilgrimage, but the journey proved fatal for a group of 11 people travelling in a Bolero car.

The accident occurred on the Bharmour-Bharmani road when the car veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch. Three persons died on the spot while eight others were seriously injured. Local authorities and Chamba police rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the Civil Hospital in Bharmour. Due to the critical condition of the injured, they were later referred to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Chamba.

Condition of injured critical

According to the Chamba police, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The condition of the eight injured passengers is reported to be critical.

Thousands turning up for Manimahesh Yatra

The Manimahesh Yatra, which began on August 26, has seen a significant influx of pilgrims, with hundreds arriving in Chamba daily to participate in the revered pilgrimage. The increased traffic has led to severe congestion on the Bharmour highway, with vehicles stuck in long jams for hours.

The pilgrimage, which will continue until September 11, attracts thousands of devotees each year, but the treacherous roads and challenging terrain have proven hazardous for travellers.
