Three leopards were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Dansa panchayat under Rampur forest division of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh. Villagers expressed fears that the leopards may have succumbed to poisoning.
Lachhami Chand, a resident of Jaguni village of Dansa panchayat, spotted an injured leopard near his house on Thursday night. Upon receiving the information, the forest department’s rescue team rushed to the scene. By the time the forest officials arrived, the leopard had already died. The carcass of two more leopards were found about 100 metres away.
The forest department took the bodies of the leopards into its possession and transferred these to the veterinary hospital at Rampur for post-mortem examination. An FIR has been filed by the forest department regarding the mysterious deaths of the leopards.
This incident follows a similar case reported near Shalun Kainchi of Rampur recently. The authorities have been awaiting its post-mortem report for further insights.
A forest official said the exact cause of the leopards’ deaths could be determined only after the post-mortem report was received. The forest department in collaboration with local authorities has been investigating the matter to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death of the leopards.
