Three persons were killed after the SUV they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Chopal subdivision of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh, leaving all of them dead, the police said on Thursday (March 14, 2024).
According to information, the accident occurred on Wednesday night on the Dhabas-Sarahan link road near Chaflah. Though the police have been conducting an investigation, it is said the accident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control over it.
The deceased have been identified as Kamal Prakash, Dev Dutt and Rajesh Kumar, all belonging to Chopal. Local eyewitnesses immediately alerted the authorities upon witnessing the vehicle’s descent down the hillside.
In a separate incident, the bodies of two persons reported missing since March 9 were recovered from the Satluj river in Shimla district on Wednesday.
The search operation was launched after Hari Sharan had lodged a missing report in the Karsog police station in Mandi over the disappearance of his grandson Bhisham Kumar. Accompanied by friends, Bhisham had embarked on a journey towards Tattapani in his vehicle but failed to return home.
After days of search, the vehicle was spotted submerged in the Satluj on March 11 at Sanaugi. With coordinated efforts from the police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, the vehicle was retrieved and the bodies of Bhisham and his friend Rajat Kumar, both residents of Karsog, were recovered from the river.
