DHARAMSHALA: In response to the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government’s celebratory event marking its one-year tenure at the Dharamshala Police Ground on December 11, the opposition BJP in Himachal Pradesh organised a protest, ‘Jan Aakrosh Rally’, at the same venue on Monday (December 18, 2023).
The BJP targeted the Congress government over its unfulfilled promises and the allegedly false poll ‘guarantees’ assured to the public. The protest, in which former CM and leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur and BJP state chief Dr Rajeev Bindal participated, among others, started from Police Ground and culminated at Kachehri square in Dharamshala.
BJP leader Vipin Singh Parmar sarcastically said that the state was being run by three chief ministers—one the chief minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and is “shadow Chief Minister”. He said the public must find out who the “shadow Chief Minister” was.
Rajiv Bindal said that the ‘Jan Aakrosh Rally’ was held to protest the Sukhu government’s event celebrating one year in power on December 11.
“To come to power in 2022, the Congress government made lofty promises and cheated 22 lakh Himachal women by giving them a guarantee of Rs 1,500 per month. The Sukhu government also cheated the youth through false promise of 5 lakh jobs in one year. All those cheated have now taken to the streets. The public is upset,” said Bindal.
Bindal alleged the Congress also cheated 22 lakh power consumers who were assured of being provided 300 units of free electricity. He said sarcastically that the “disaster had hit Himachal and the state government was celebrating”.
Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP state in-charge, said that there is was “government of ‘dukh’ (sorrows)” instead of ‘sukh’ (happiness) in the state. He said that the country has reached “scheme from scam” under the Narendra Modi government. He said that now was the chance to show the mirror to the state government. “Lok Sabha elections are coming and Modi has to win all four Lok Sabha seats with a huge majority,” he said.
Jai Ram said that though Kangra had given 10 out of 15 seats to the Congress, only one minister remained in the government for a year and the second was made only days ago. “We will raise this maltreatment with Kangra and Mandi districts during the winter session,” he said.
